To show evidence of my Responsibility I have provided an essay about the time when I won Citizen of the Month.
In my sophomore year I received an award for being the citizen of the month for December 2011. Unfortunately I do not have the award anymore, yet I can still tell you about why, and how I won the award.
One day in the hallway Mr. Kregel my principal stopped me and asked me to stop by his office so we could talk. Mortified that I had done something wrong I cautiously entered his office. However, to my relief, when I went in it became clear that he was happy to see me. He congratulated me and shook my hand telling me that I had won citizen of the month for December. He then went on to tell me why I had won the award. He said “A lot of your teachers have emailed me about how nice it is to have you in class, and that you are a very responsible young man.”
I was very excited, especially to hear that my teachers were speaking so highly of me! Although, after I had left his office I got to wondering what responsibility really is. Of course there is the responsibility of turning in your homework in on time, and being a good student. Though, it means something else as well; it means that you have reached a new level of maturity where you are in control of yourself. You are responsible for you. I had never realized it before, but the days of my parents and teachers taking care of me were gone, I had to be responsible for myself from now on. It gave me confidence for the future to know that people had started to notice how responsible and independent I had become.
